Azerbaijan is considering the possibility of cooperating with Russia in the GLONASS space navigation system, Russian Vice Prime Minister Sergey Ivanov said at a meeting of the Government Export Control Commission today.

According to the official, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev took interest in the system after a demonstration during his meeting with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Ulyanovsk this week.

"Aliyev expressed a desire in entering practical cooperation with Russia in this sphere," Ivanov said.

He added that international space cooperation is actively carried out with CIS countries.

"The format of our interaction should be defined not only through political considerations, but also benefits of an economic nature, which can be achieved only if there is a full-fledged legal treaty base providing reliable protection and preserving national missile and space technologies," Ivanov said.
