Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov signed a decree on opening the Permanent Representation of Turkmenistan to the UN office in Geneva (Swiss Confederation).
Opening of this office is intended to promote further development of effective contacts with this large international organization, Turkmen media reported.
"Turkmenistan, being a full member of the international community and taking an active role in the development of optimal solutions to urgent issues of regional and global development, stands for intensifying positive international partnership that meets the interests of global security, prosperity and progress," Berdimuhamedov said at a governmental meeting.
Last autumn, Turkmenistan was elected vice-chairman of the Bureau of the Committee on Sustainable Energy of the UN Economic Commission for Europe. The Bureau of the Committee on Sustainable Energy of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) also includes Switzerland, France, Italy, U.S, Canada, Great Britain, Russia, Norway.
The UNECE reaffirmed its readiness for the active and broad international cooperation with a view of implementing in practice the initiative of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov called "Reliable and stable transit of energy resources and its role in sustainable development and international cooperation."
The Turkmen sources said that the projected growth of demand of European countries for energy resources stipulates their interest in Turkmenistan as a major energy supplier and one of the major players on the global energy market.
