Azerbaijani Newspaper Former Chief Editor Called to Police Station

Azerbaijan, Baku, 27 June / Trend corr. K.Zarbaliyeva /Mahal Ismayiloglu, chief editor of the Khalg gazeti newspaper, was called to the Absheron region based police station.  

Ismayioglu stated that the maid of his neighbor in Novkhani, complained against him. "The complainant said that allegedly I beat her when she throwing garbage in front of my house. However, Ismayiloglu connected this complain with the pressure against him due to the article "Let's wipe our tears' published in the Yeni Musavat newspaper on 7 June.

Journalist said that Vahid Imanov's maid, Nasiba, complained against him to the police station. After giving three hours testimonial evidences the journalist was released. Samir Majidov, Chief of the Investigation Department, stated that Ismayiloglu was called to police station as a witness. However, Majidov did not detail the case.

For a long period Ismayioglu worked as a chief editor of the Khalg gazeti newspaper, which was founded by the President Affairs Management Department. In 2002, Ismayiloglu was dismissed.
