BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 12. Riga hosted political meetings between Colombia and Latvia on June 10, 2025, bringing the two capitals together diplomatically, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia.
The meeting was co-chaired by Katarina Plātere, Head of the Bilateral Relations Directorate at Latvia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Patricia Cortés Ortiz, Director of the European Department at Colombia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
With both nations gearing up to take the bull by the horns on the United Nations Security Council in 2026 and 2027, the talks were all about getting their ducks in a row on key global issues. The Latvian delegation underscored the need to keep the ball rolling on support for Ukraine, take the bull by the horns in containing Russian aggression, and ensure that the powers that be hold the line on international accountability for the crime of aggression.
The discussions also included an exchange of views on the European Union’s relationship with the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC), especially in light of the upcoming EU-CELAC summit to be hosted by Colombia later this year.
In addition to multilateral cooperation, both sides reviewed the state of Latvian-Colombian bilateral relations and explored prospects for expanding economic cooperation in the years ahead.
This meeting follows the previous round of political consultations held in Bogotá, Colombia, on June 13, 2023.
