BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 4. The number of hired workers by economic activity and ownership in Azerbaijan amounted to 1,775 million people as of December 1 last year, Trend reports via the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.
According to the data, the number of hired workers by economic activity and ownership in the public sector was 884,400, while the private sector had 890,900.
The education sector ranks first in terms of the number of employed individuals by kind of economic activity and ownership. The workforce in this industry was 328,500 individuals, with 311,200 engaged in the public sector and 17,300 in the private sector.
The second position in the list is occupied by workers employed in the sphere of trade: repair of vehicles. The number of hired workers in this sphere amounted to 328,200 people. Of these workers, 3,200 were employed in the public sector and 325,000 in the private sector.
Other hired workers are concentrated in the health care and social services sectors. The number of people employed in this sector amounted to 150,800, of which 121,000 were employed in the public sector and 29,800 in the private sector.
The sector with the least number of hired workers is real estate. The number of people employed in these areas amounted to 19,400, of which 5,500 worked in the public sector and 13,900 in the private sector.
To note, as many as 31,600 people were employed in the oil and gas sector of the economy during the reporting period, and 1,743,700 people were employed in the non-oil and gas sector.
