TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, March 25. Uzbekistan is set to begin pouring the foundation for its first nuclear power plant (NPP) in the second quarter of 2026, said Azim Akhmedkhadjaev, Director of the Atomic Energy Agency, Trend reports.

The plant is being constructed by Russian contractors under an agreement with the state corporation Rosatom. In an interview with AlterEgo, Akhmedkhadjaev noted that the project is progressing ahead of schedule.

The total cost is expected to remain within $2 billion, with the first reactor slated to be commissioned in 2029. Additional reactors will come online gradually, with full completion anticipated by 2033.
