ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 9. For the first time in five years, 1.38 billion cubic meters of water have been supplied to the Sozak District of the Turkestan region of Kazakhstan, announced the Minister of Water Resources, Nurzhan Nurzhigitov, during a meeting with the local population, Trend reports.
The minister reminded them that in 2024, in order to provide water to the region’s farmers, the Tasotkel Reservoir was repaired, and its capacity was increased from 450 million to 620 million cubic meters.
“This will allow an additional 200 million cubic meters of water to be directed to the Sozak District,” the Ministry of Water Resources stated.
According to the minister, commencement of operations is slated for July to undertake the remediation and restoration of the Furmanov Channel infrastructure.
Additionally, water management specialists plan to install a special device on the Raday Channel to regulate and direct water from the Shu River to the Sozak District.
“This year, due to the efficient distribution and regulation of the Shu River’s water, the water has arrived in the Sozak District one month earlier than usual. Already, we have sent 300 million cubic meters more water than last year. We do not plan to stop here,” emphasized Nurzhigitov.
At the end of the meeting, he promised that by May, 85 cubic meters of water per second would be directed to the district.
