ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 2. The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and the Islamic Development Bank met in Astana and discussed the development of key water infrastructures in Kazakhstan, Trend reports via the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The parties discussed the involvement of Kazakhstani businesses in providing building materials for projects on the construction and reconstruction of hydraulic structures, which are being implemented with the support of the international financial organization.
Earlier, the ministry presented the business community with a work plan, the need for building materials, conditions for participation in tenders, as well as measures to ensure transparency in procurement processes.
"The Islamic Development Bank's working group has also arrived in Kazakhstan. The main objective of the IDB experts’ visit is to conduct workshops on developing institutional potential in the field of water resource management, implementing modern technologies, enhancing professional technical education, and the automation and digitalization of water infrastructure," the information notes.
The workshops will run until July 6. The mission of the Islamic Development Bank will also visit the Turkestan region and the Zhetysu region, where large-scale construction works are planned as part of the "Development of Climate-Resilient Water Resources" project.
"The IDB delegation will also hold a series of working meetings with key government agencies. This visit confirms our mutual interest in a long-term partnership in implementing advanced technologies and strengthening the human resource potential of the country’s water sector, which is especially important in the face of global climate challenges. We will continue joint work to expand cooperation within new programs and initiatives," noted Yerbolat Ibraikhanov, the Vice Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation of Kazakhstan.
The first phase of the joint project with the IDB includes the construction of four new reservoirs and the reconstruction of four existing reservoirs, the major repair of 115 canals, and a project to replenish the Astana Reservoir. The works will cover the Akmolinsk, Almaty, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, Turkestan, West Kazakhstan regions, the Zhetysu region, and the city of Astana.
