Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Jan. 8 / Trend corr E. Hasanov / The ferry communication between the settlements of Pelvert and Mekan through the Amu Darya river, at the bank of which oil and gas fields are developing at fast pace, was restored, Turkmen media reported.
Last winter, the Amu Darya river froze which led to the collapse of the bridge of boats.
The Turkmen newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan reported that the restoration of the ferry passage enabled to reduce the transportation line to 300 kilometers and considerably save time for freight delivery through the Amu Darya.
The article says that this ferry passage is of a special significance for the economical development of the region as heavy technical equipments and building materials are delivered through this passage for the development of the oil and gas fields in the right-bank of the river.
The gas fields at the right-bank of Amu Darya river will be a source for the transnational gas pipeline Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Kazakhstan-China through which the first volumes of the Turkmen gas will be delivered in late 2009.
The local media says that besides a convenient location, the maximum carrying capacity of the ferry is 100 tons more than the ferry passage of Turkmenabat-Farab, carrying capacity of which is 40 tons. Now, heavy-loaded transitional motor transport can also use the ferry passage.
In 2009, the expected volume of the ferry transportation between Halach and Hojambaz regions will make up 100,000 tons. The lump sum of ferry transportation through Turkmenabat-Fabat, Atamurat-Kerkichi, Choh-Pette and Pelvert-Mekan is expected to comprise 3.5mln tons which is 85,000 more than the ferry transportation in 2008.
