Export of the Chevrolet (Ravon) Tracker crossover from Uzbekistan to Russia will begin in 2019 after launch of a full production cycle at the General Motors (GM) Uzbekistan plant in the city of Asaka in the Andijan region, a source in the Uzbek company told Trend on Aug. 8.
The company representative reminded that SKD (semi-split) assembly of the new model will begin in Tashkent in 2018. In 2019, a production line will be launched at the GM’s plant in Asaka.
The plant will carry out a full production cycle, including stamping, welding and painting of car bodies, which will increase the localization level of production of the new model at the Asaka plant to over 50. Thanks to this, it will be possible to export Ravon Tracker to Russia.
Chevrolet (Ravon) Tracker is planned to be equipped with a 1.8-liter engine with a capacity of 140 horsepower. The fuel consumption will be 8.1 liters per 100 kilometers. The car is equipped with a front-wheel drive, but there are modifications equipped with all-wheel drive with electronic control.
It was earlier reported that the Uzbek automaker will begin selling the Chevrolet Tracker crossover in Uzbekistan since Sept. 2018. The company is also planning to organize production of electric vehicles.
Interestingly, in June-July 2018, GM Uzbekistan could not sell a single car in Russia.
At the same time, sales of the company in Russia increased by 17 percent in January-July 2018 compared to the same period in 2017 and amounted to 5,180 vehicles.
The share of GM Uzbekistan in the Russian market was 0.5 percent in January-July 2018 compared to 0.7 percent for the same period in 2017.
