Director General of Iran's Amirabad Ports and Maritime Organization and Special Economic Zone Siavash Rezvani said the country is exporting apples to Kazakhstan.

“Iran is exporting apples to Kazakhstan through the port of Amirabad,” Rezvani said, IRIB news agency reported on October 10.

“Some 170 tons of apples from the city of Damavand were packed, loaded and shipped to Kazakhstan,” he added.

With a population of 400 million, the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) should be looked at as great market for Iranian agricultural products and meat, Rezvani said.

The port facility could help facilitate exports to these countries, he said.

Amirabad is currently the largest port facility on the Caspian shore and the third largest port in Iran. The 1,000-hectare port currently has nine berths, which can accommodate Ro-Ro vessels, trains and trucks.
