Azerbaijan Increases Gas Price for Georgia – Minister

Azerbaijan, Baku, 11 February / Trend corr. A.Ismailova / Georgia is to purchase 1-1.5bln cu m of gas per year from Azerbaijan, but Azerbaijan may only sell 500mln cu m in 2008, Natik Aliyev, the Industry and Energy Minister of Azerbaijan, stated on 11 February.

According to Aliyev, Georgia is ready to purchase gas from Azerbaijan at a cost of $180-190 per 1,000 cu m. In 2007, gas was delivered to the country for $120 per 1,000 cu m. Azerbaijan will restore gas supply to Georgia as soon as an agreement is signed. The gas supply will be implemented in compliance with the contract with the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR).

SOCAR has its own gas supply, which is produced in developed fields. Azerbaijan delivered about 1.3 to 1.5mln cu m of gas per day to Georgia by the end of 2007. This gas was transported to the Georgian border through Azerigas gas transporting lines.
