Oil pumped by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) slid 1.97 dollars at the start of the week, the group said Tuesday.
OPEC's basket price dropped to 80.89 dollars per barrel (159 litres) Monday amid legal troubles at US investment bank Goldman Sachs and disrupted flight traffic in Europe, DPA reported.
As Goldman Sachs is one of the biggest players in commodity investments, oil markets are nervous about a possible negative impact of a fraud investigation against the bank, analysts at Commerzbank said in Frankfurt.
"The disturbance of European air traffic by volcanic ashes could have added to the price reduction, as it strained the market psychologically," the analysts said.
