Uzbekistan increases power generation by 3.5 percent

In the first quarter of 2010, Uzbekistan increased its power generation by 3.5 percent to 13.645 billion kWh compared to the same period in 2009, the Uzbek State Statistics Agency reported.

Uzbekenergo increased its power generation by 3.6 percent to 13.512 billion kWh in January-March. The remaining power was generated by the autonomous thermal power industry and a small hydroelectric power station belonging to the Agriculture and Water Resources Ministry.

The volume of the thermal energy transferred to consumers since early 2010 fell by 6.8 percent to 5.954 million Gcal.

Currently, about 42 power plants with a total capacity of 12.358 MW operate in the Uzbek power system. Uzbekenergo has seven thermal power plants, six companies producing hydroelectric power, and three thermal power stations. The capacity of the Uzbekenergo's power stations is 12,040 MW.

In 2009, Uzbekistan reduced power generation by 0.3 percent to 49.954 billion kWh compared to 2008.
