BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, July 1. More than 220.269 million passengers were transported in Kyrgyzstan from January through May 2024, which is a 7 percent increase, or 14.7 million more people, compared to the 205.569 million passengers during the same period in 2023, Trend reports.
In May 2024, compared to May 2023, there was an increase of 5.1 million passengers, or 19 percent, in transportation. However, compared to April 2024, there was a decrease of 5 percent, as reported by Kyrgyzstan’s State Statistical Committee.
The majority of passengers, around 95 percent, were transported by road (buses, minibuses, and taxis), which is an increase of 18.5 million passengers, or 25 percent, compared to January–April 2023. Additionally, 87,000 passengers traveled by rail and 370,000 passengers by air.
Overall passenger turnover across all modes of transport from January through May 2024 reached 4 billion passenger kilometers, which is 4 percent higher than the 3.819 billion passenger kilometers recorded during the same period in 2023.
