JICA to provide grant for modernization of Kyrgyzstan's air navigation equipment

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, November 18. The Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) will provide a grant to Kyrgyzstan for the modernization of air navigation equipment, Trend reports.

The relevant bill was approved in three readings by the Kyrgyz Parliament's Committee on International Affairs, Defense, Security and Migration. The document formalizes the exchange of notes and grant agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and the Government of Japan.

Under the project, JICA will allocate a grant of 2.153 billion Japanese yen (approximately 1.147 billion Kyrgyz soms or $13.5 million) to fund the construction of an air navigation tower at Osh Airport and the modernization of air navigation equipment at Manas and Issyk-Kul airports.

The committee also approved another bill, under which Japan will provide a grant of up to 1.5 billion ($9.6 million) Japanese yen for the upgrading of medical equipment at tertiary-level healthcare facilities in Bishkek.

Additionally, the committee endorsed a proposal allowing Kyrgyz state and municipal employees the opportunity to pursue quality education at leading universities in Japan.
