APTMA, Tajik bank sign memorandum of understanding

All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Tajikistan's Orien Bank during an APTMA delegation's visit to Dushanbe, onepakistan.com website reported.

The document was signed to explore the prospects of bilateral trade and investment including cotton import from Tajikistan and extension of expertise for up-gradation of Tajikistan textile industry.

APTMA Chairman Mohsin Aziz said the Orien Bank is one of the largest bank of Tajikistan having investment portfolio in cotton, textiles, farming and airline business etc.

He said APTMA at first stage will import 2,000 tons of cotton, followed by further advancement on this front in future. A delegation of businessmen engaged in textile business will visit Pakistan soon, he added.

APTMA would help out Tajikistan textile industry in revival, competitiveness and expansion of textile mills under the MoU.

Earlier , Aziz said that Tajikistan, landlocked by Kyrgyzstan, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan and China, exports over 90,000 tons of cotton to 18 countries including Russia, Iran and Turkey.
"We desire to become Tajikistan's major trading partner," he added.
