Iran produces some 1.7 million barrels per day (mbpd) of crude oil through injecting natural gas to its oilfields, the deputy oil minister Mohsen Khojasteh-Mehr told Fars news agency on Saturday.

Iran said on Thursday that it has maintained oil production levels despite sanctions.

Iran's OPEC governor said that oil output in February was steady at around 3.5 million barrels per day, the same volume as in January.

"The production for this month will be the same as the previous, around 3.5 (million)," said Mohammad Ali Khatibi, Iran's representative on the board of governors of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries.

Iran's fifth five-year economic development plan (2010-2015) has envisaged boosting the country's gas production by 250 million cubic meters per day to reach 1.4 billion cubic meters per day.

Oil minister Rostam Qasemi has announced that the country's recoverable oil reserves hit 154.8 billion barrels. Iran ranks second in the world in natural gas resources after Russia with available gas reserves estimated at over 33 trillion cubic meters.

Iran ranks third in the world on the largest proven oil reserves and the second - on largest natural gas reserves.
