BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 15. Iran's thermal power plants (TPPs) increased electricity generation by 2.1 percent during the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025) compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024), Nasser Eskandari, deputy head of power generation operations at the country's Thermal Power Plants Holding Company (TPPH), told reporters, Trend reports.
He mentioned the local TPPs have produced 351 million megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity in the reporting year, which is a record figure in the electricity generation at the country's thermal power plants.
Eskandari said that out of this volume, 57.6 percent, i.e., 202 million MWh, accounted for combined cycle plants.
The official added that of the aforementioned amount of electricity, 82 million MWh were produced in steam units and 67 million MWh in gas units.
Iran's electricity production potential is 93,455 megawatts. The production potential of Iran's thermal power plants is 76,257 megawatts; the production potential of hydroelectric power plants is 12,144 megawatts; the production potential of retail power plants is 2,485 megawatts; the production potential of renewable power plants is 1,300 megawatts; the production potential of the Bushehr nuclear power plant is 1,020 megawatts; and the production potential of diesel units is 408 megawatts.
