Iran's president proposes to organize international monitoring body on nuclear disarmament

During his speech at the opening ceremony of Tehran nuclear conference, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad offered to organize an international body to control nuclear disarmament, IRINN reported.

Ahmadinejad said an international independent group should be established to ensure full nuclear disarmament. The group would develop the action plan and control the process of its implementation.

Ahmadinejad also proposed to suspend the IAEA membership of the countries possessing, using or threatening nuclear weapons, revise the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) and try to change the UN Security Council's structure.

Today, Tehran opened an international conference on nuclear disarmament. The conference passing under the "Peaceful nuclear energy for all, nuclear weapons - to no one" motto will be attended by representatives of more than 70 countries and international organizations. About 300 Iranian and foreign journalists cover the conference.

The main topics of the forthcoming discussions will be study of the existing problems in the field of nuclear disarmament, the countries' international obligations not to use weapons of mass destruction, ban on the production and use of nuclear weapons and consideration of nuclear weapons from a religious point of view.
