Libyan rebel forces are advancing on west and east fronts, and will "hopefully" make significant progress in pushing toward capital Tripoli, a senior rebel military official said Monday.

Ismael Salabi, the official, told a news conference here that the rebel forces are only about 20 km away from Brega, an oil port about 750 km east of Tripoli, in the east front, while breakthroughs have also been made in the towns of Meselata and Zliten in the west front, Xinhua reported.

He reiterated that the rebels have no connections with Al-Qaida.
