Borussia Moenchengladbach promoted back to first division

Former Bundesliga champions Borussia Moenchengladbach on Wednesday became the first club this season to be promoted to the first division with a 3-0 victory against Wiesbaden Wehen, the dpa reported.

The club, who were one of the leading clubs in the 1970s when they won five Bundesliga titles and won the UEFA Cup twice, have 63 points - eight points more than fourth-placed Mainz 05.

41,000 spectators saw Sharbel Touma open the score in the 11th minute. The Lebanese-born Swede also scored his side's third ten minutes from time.

Canadian international Rob Friend scored his side's second in the 67th minute.

Although the club is planing a huge party in Moenchengladbach on Sunday after their game at home to SC Freiburg, but coach Jos Luhukay said that he would not allow his players to party till then.

"I do not believe they should be celebrating wildly. We want to win on Sunday and then move into the city to celebrate as champions," the Dutchman said.
