Azerbaijan, Lankaran, 19 June / corr. Trend P. Aliyeva/ The traffic rule violations in Lankaran region of Azerbaijan has risen against the previous year, Nasimi Mammadov, the head of the Traffic Police Department of Lankaran region said to Trend .
A total of 1,601 traffic rule violations have been registered during the last 5 months of 2008 which is 74 facts more than against the same period of 2007. This figure totaled to 1,527 in the same period of 2007. In total, some 3,692 traffic rule violations were committed in 2007.
In 2007, some 19 car accidents took place in the service area of the department killing 11 and injuring 15. At total of 12 died and 23 were injured in 14 car accidents in Alat-Astara highway in Lankaran. In total, 33 car accidents took place in the region killing 23 and injuring 38. A total of 6 people died and 3 were injured for five months of 2008.
According to Medvedev, during the last five months of 2008, a total of 2 people died and 3 were injured as a result of 5 traffic accidents in the service area of the department The head of the department said that the narrow roads, shortage of traffic lights and road signs, inexperience of some drivers and rise in the number of cars are the key reasons of the car accidents. According to Mammadov, in 2007, 65 road signs were replaced and 20 more signs will be replaced by the end of the year.
Lankaran is located 270km south of Baku.
