ASTANA, Kazakhstan, March 11. More than 2,300 scientific projects are funded in Kazakhstan, said Kazakhstan’s Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek at a Government meeting, Trend reports.
He noted that the scientific potential of Kazakhstan currently consists of 25,500 scientists, 46 percent of whom are under the age of 40. He also added that 425 organizations are operating in the field of science.
"Now, grant competitions are held annually, whereas they used to be held every three years. In addition, the mechanisms for state support have been expanded: grants for postdoctoral researchers and young scientists have been introduced, funding for commercialization of developments, direct funding for fundamental institutions, foreign internships, and mega-grants. Currently, 264 scientific and technical programs, more than 2,300 scientific projects, and 208 commercialization projects are funded. More than 1,400 scientists have participated in scientific internships abroad," said Sayasat Nurbek.
The minister added that thanks to grant competitions for young scientists, more than 2,000 researchers have had the opportunity to implement 835 projects.
Today, Kazakhstan holds a Government meeting in Astana. The agenda includes the development and digitalization of science.
