ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, August 4. A ferry service between Russia's Makhachkala Port and Turkmenistan is set to begin operations by 2030, as part of a broader plan to boost trade routes across the Caspian Sea, Trend reports.
The ferry line is part of a large-scale transport development project involving Turkmenistan, Iran, and Kazakhstan, and is expected to enhance cargo connectivity between the Caspian littoral states. The initiative is backed by major infrastructure upgrades at the Makhachkala Sea Trade Port, aimed at increasing its annual cargo turnover by 2 million tons.
A key feature of the modernization involves the construction of a specialized platform at the berth, capable of handling up to 200 containers simultaneously. This will streamline loading and unloading processes, making the port more efficient and attractive for regional freight operators.
