Uzbekistan increased the cotton-fiber production by 5 percent to 621,593 tons in January-June 2013 compared to the same period of 2012, a source in the Uzbek governmental circles told Trend today.
According to the interlocutor of the agency, cotton yarn production has increased by 30 percent to 87,580 tons, cotton fabrics production - by 41.5 percent to 37.628 million square meters since early 2013.
It was informed that cotton-fiber production in Uzbekistan decreased by 0.6 percent to 1.095 million tons in 2012 compared to 2011.
Uzbekistan ranks sixth in terms of production and third in terms of export of cotton-fiber. Approximately 3.5 million tons of raw cotton and 1-1.2 million tons of cotton fiber are produced in the republic annually. Middle sorts hit 95 percent and long sorts - 5 percent. Over 75 percent of cotton produced in Uzbekistan is exported.
