Construction of a polypropylene manufacturing project in Kazakhstan’s Atyrau region is 66.58 percent ready as of the end of the May 2020, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy Nurlan Nogayev said, Trend reports with reference to the press office of Kazakhstan’s prime minister.
Nogayev said that there was a deviation from the construction plan.
“Deviation from the plan was due to the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to a disruption in the equipment deliveries and a disruption to the established system of work to attract foreign labor,” Nogayev said.
A polypropylene (PP) plant within the framework of the integrated gas-chemical complex of Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries (KPI) in Atyrau will be ready by mid-2021.
Earlier this year Austrian Borealis made a decision to suspend development of a polyethylene project in Kazakhstan.
The company said that the decision to discontinue the project is based on a thorough assessment of all aspects of the prospective venture and impacted by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic as well as the increased uncertainty of future market assumptions.
