BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 14. As many as 348 agricultural facilities at a cost of more than 19 trillion rials (about $453 million) were put into use in Iran’s Kurdistan Province in the west of the country, over the past 1 year (August 23, 2021 through August 23, 2022), Director of the Agricultural Department in Kurdistan Province Peyman Eskandari told IRNA, Trend reports.
A total of 1,658 people were provided with jobs by putting the mentioned facilities into use, the director said.
Eskandari added that in addition, the activity of 52 agricultural facilities were resumed in the province in the past year. As a result, 271 people were employed.
“Furthermore, 508,000 tons of agricultural products worth $195 million were exported from the province within the reporting period,” he noted.
According to Eskandari, work is currently underway to equip 16,800 hectares of agricultural land with irrigation systems in the province. In this regard, 1.01 trillion rials (about $24 million) is to be spent. By creating the irrigation network, 6,891 people are expected to be employed and production to increase 6 times.
In general, there are approximately 1.22 million hectares of agricultural land in Iran's Kurdistan Province. This is about 5 percent of Iran's total agricultural area.
Within the last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), 1.75 million tons of agricultural products were cultivated in Kurdistan Province.
