EU gas usage increased 2.1 percent to 517 billion cubic meters in 2008, Eurogas reported.
According to Eurogas, gas production increased 1.8 percent to 202 billion cubic meters in 27 EU countries owing to production growth in the Netherlands and Denmark.
Domestic gas production hit 39 percent and covered the EU gas demand in 2008.
Russia was the main foreign gas supplier (25 percent), followed by Norway (18 percent) and Algeria (10 percent).
Gas usage in Turkey increased 0.4 percent to 36.1 billion cubic meters, compared to 35.9 billion cubic meters in 2007.
Eurogas said the EU gas demand will increase 43 percent to 625 million tons of oil equivalent in 2030, compared to 438 million tons of oil equivalent in 2005. The EU natural gas demand will increase 30 percent in 2030, compared to 24 percent in 2005.
