Natural anomalies obstacles to develop hydrocarbon resources in Karakum

Natural anomalies such as caverns in oil and gas areas are obstacles to hydrocarbon resource development in the Karakum Desert, the Neutralniy Turkmenistan newspaper reported.

Turkmen President Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov in this regard ordered the development "of a specific scientifically based program to address existing anomalies complicating accelerated industrial development of rich underground storerooms at Central Karakum."

He emphasized that the program must be ecologically balanced, taking into account tasks to protect the unique desert environment.

Berdimuhammedov also noted the need for professionals to maximize the use of modern echnologies and scientific developments to address long-standing caverns issues in the area.

The paper reported that the geologists who have studied the area determined that a large-scale tectonic uplift has complicated fractures.
