BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, February 26. Kyrgyzstan’s total electricity consumption in 2024 amounted to 18.3 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh), Trend reports.

This was announced during a meeting of the energy companies and institutions under the Ministry of Energy of Kyrgyzstan, reviewing the results of 2024.

According to the disclosed data, the country's hydroelectric power plants generated 12.77 billion kWh of electricity, while thermal power plants produced 1.76 billion kWh. Additionally, Kyrgyzstan imported 3.63 billion kWh of electricity from neighboring countries.

Private small hydroelectric plants contributed 156.2 million kWh, and solar power plants produced 170,000 kWh of electricity.

As per the ministry, significant progress was made in the rehabilitation of Kyrgyzstan's energy infrastructure last year. The Toktogul hydroelectric power station’s hydroelectric unit No. 1 was successfully rehabilitated, boosting its capacity by an additional 60 megawatts, allowing for the generation of an extra 525.3 million kWh of electricity.

The rehabilitation of unit no. 4 at the Uch-Korgon hydroelectric power station was also completed, increasing its capacity by 16 megawatts, which will contribute an additional 140.6 million kWh of power.

Additionally, construction works for the CASA-1000 project, which will help improve electricity supply across the region, have been fully completed within Kyrgyzstan. The project aims to improve energy exchange and trade between Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
