Syrian President Bashar Assad appointed Saturday Abdul-Kader Abdul-sheikh as a new governor of Latakia province in northern Syria, replacing Khalil Mashhadiyah, Syria's news agency reported.
The agency gave no further details, Xinhua reported.
Assad, since the outbreak of protests in Syria more than a month ago, has dismissed three governors as part of many other overtures made to calm down protestors demanding sweeping reforms in the country.
He has already fired the governors of the central province of Homs and the southern province of Daraa, which has been the heartland of protests.
