The Libyan government and the rebels seeking to overthrow it need to work harder on a peaceful political solution, UN Secretary General told Libyan Prime Minister al-Baghdadi al-Mahmoudi Thursday, reported UN officials, DPA reported.
During the phone call, Ban told al-Mahmoudi that he is particularly concerned about the rising death toll and the destruction of infrastructure. He also expressed worries about shortages of medicine and fuel.
He pushed again for the two sides to seek reconciliation and denied reports that he was planning to call a special meeting of the UN Security Council on Libya.
The demands were focused on both sides in the conflict.
Libya has been in a civil war since February, with rebels saying they want to install a democratic government to depose Moamer Gaddafi, who has been in power since 1969.
