A British soldier has been shot dead while on foot patrol in southern Afghanistan, taking to 260 the total of British military fatalities in the conflict so far, DPA reported.
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) in London said the incident happened in the Musa Qala district of Helmand province in southern Afghanistan late Sunday.
The soldier was shot during a firefight after dark, the MoD said. Earlier Sunday, another British soldier died from an explosion while on foot patrol near Sangin.
The incidents were not connected to the current anti-Taliban offensive conducted by international and Afghan forces.
