NTRC of Azerbaijan Disclose Results of Monitoring on Broadcasting of Films in Turkish on TV Channels

Azerbaijan, Baku, 5 February / corr. Trend E. Huseynli / The National TV and Radio Council of Azerbaijan (NTRC) have divulged the results of the monitoring on the broadcasting of the films (feature films and documentaries) in the TV channels in Turkish.

"The films in Turkish are broadcast for 12 to 14 hours within the 168 hours of airtime," Nushirevan Maharramli, the chairman of NTRC said to Trend on 5 February.

NTRC has banned the broadcasting of the feature films and documentaries in foreign languages in Azerbaijan since 1 January. The Turkish language was an exception and the films in Turkish are allowed to be broadcast for a period with certain restrictions.

According to Maharramli, the fact that the films in Turkish take up 10-12 hours of airtime is considered to be normal for the moment, but NTRC thinks that the films must be broadcast in the national language until the end of the year. Government support is needed to translate the films into Azeri.

NTRC has introduced a set of proposals to the Azerbaijani Government to fund the dubbing of films.
