Punishment for crimes related to the illegal spread of pornographic materials or items will be tightened in Azerbaijan.
The bill "On Introduction of Supplements and Amendments to the Penal Code" envisions changing the sanction of Penal Code's Article 242 (illegal spread of pornographic materials or items).
The bill reads that a person who has committed this crime shall be deprived of the right to keep his/her post or being involved in a certain activity for a period of up to 3 years. In the case of non-deprival, such person shall be fined to 2,000-4,000 manat or sentenced to 2-year correctional works or sentenced to 3 years in prison.
According to the existing legal provisions, this crime is punished in the form of fine of 1,000-3,000 manat or 2-year imprisonment or 2-year correctional works.
The illegal spread of pornographic materials or items means their illegal manufacture, spread or advertising as well as illegal trade of books, video or photographs of pornographic nature and other items with the aim of spread or advertising of these materials or items.
Following examination at the Parliament's Committee on Legal Policy and Statehood Issues, the bill was submitted for consideration to the Parliament of Azerbaijan.
