ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 10. The first marine self-elevating floating drilling unit (SEMC), named "Satti" and built in Kazakhstan, has commenced drilling operations in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea at the Cheleken oil field, says Kazakhstan's KazMunayGas, Trend reports.

The SEMC "Satti" represents a significant advancement in drilling technology, specifically designed for challenging marine conditions. After modifications in 2021, the rig's lifting capacity was enhanced from 453 to 680 tons, enabling it to undertake larger-scale projects. It is capable of drilling wells up to 6,000 meters deep.

The successful deployment of "Satti" in international projects underscores Kazakhstan's capacity to execute complex oil and gas operations on a global scale while providing high-quality services.

To facilitate upcoming operations in Ashgabat, a branch of KMG Drilling and Services - a subsidiary of KazMunayGas and the owner of "Satti" - has been established. This new branch aims to ensure efficient and timely operations in Turkmenistan. The opening ceremony was attended by Askhat Khasenov, the head of KMG.

Meanwhile, in August 2024, KMG Drilling & Services entered into a contract with Dragon Oil Turkmenistan Limited for drilling operations in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea.

Founded in 2008, KMG Drilling & Services is a leading provider of drilling services in the Kazakh sector of the Caspian Sea and a subsidiary of KazMunayGas. It owns the first marine drilling rig, "Satti."

Dragon Oil Turkmenistan Ltd, a subsidiary of Dragon Oil (UAE), specializes in the exploration and production of hydrocarbons in the Cheleken area of the Caspian Sea and is owned by the Emirates National Oil Company (ENOC).
