ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 15. The construction of the first container hub on the Caspian Sea coast has begun in the Mangystau region of Kazakhstan, Trend reports.
This project will increase the throughput capacity of the Aktau port to 240,000 TEU (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units) per year. The project is being implemented by Lianyungang Port Group in collaboration with the Aktau Sea Commercial Port.
The project will also enhance Kazakhstan's position in the international logistics system and expand the potential of the country's transport and logistics sector.
The development of the hub will facilitate the increase of container transportation along the Trans-Caspian route through Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye, and will help reorient a portion of transit cargo moving from China to Europe.

As of today, container transportation through Kazakhstan’s seaports has increased by 84 percent, reaching 58,000 TEU, with container transport along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) seeing a 2.7-fold growth. The completion of the project is planned for mid-2025.
