Kazakhstan's southern region set to boom in 2025 with new projects

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 16. Projects totaling $146.3 million are scheduled to be implemented in Kazakhstan's Zhetiysu district, Trend reports.

The opening of 28 facilities in Southern Kazakhstan is anticipated to occur next year, potentially generating 900 new jobs. Among other industries, these projects will be in manufacturing, light industry, transportation and logistics, tourism, and education. The entire private investment cost is $146.3 million.

A transshipment terminal capable of handling 350,000 TEU will be operational in the area by 2025. An estimated $75.24 million will be spent on the launch, which is anticipated to generate 100 new jobs.

A comparable project is underway in the Zhetiysu region's Panfilov district. An estimated $6.46 million will be spent on the development of a multipurpose transshipment facility. 140 jobs will be created by the project, which has an annual capacity of 190,000 TEU.

A logistics terminal will also be built at the Khorgos International Center for Border Cooperation. The building will cover 1,000 square meters. Additionally, a warehouse with an area of 1,000 square meters will be built for $539,600.

A production of metal products will be launched in the special economic zone (SEZ). Services for warehousing will also be provided. The production capacity will be 40,000 square meters of metal roofing per year. In addition, a sewing production facility is planned to be set up in the region next year.

Furthermore, six projects in the transport and logistics sector will be implemented in the SEZ. For example, a warehouse worth $6.46 million will be constructed, along with an open yard of 47,000 square meters. At another similar facility, 126,000 vehicles can be stored annually.

Plans also include the production of profiled sheet metal worth $380,000. In 2025, a textile production facility for $380,000 is expected to start. Additionally, a project for the production of galvanized steel with a polymer coating is planned in the Panfilov district, at a cost of $170,050.

In 2025, the opening of a metallurgical plant for the production of ferroalloys worth $6.27 million is planned. The plant's capacity will be 10,000 tons of low-carbon ferrochrome per year. It is expected that 65 people will be employed.

In the field of renewable energy, two hydropower plants are expected to be launched, with a total cost of $19.57 million. The capacity of the first green project will be 8.6 MW, and the second one will have a capacity of 12 MW.

To note, according to the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the short-term economic indicator (STI) for Kazakhstan in the first nine months of 2024 amounted to 105.3 percent (compared to 104.4 percent in January-August 2024). The STI calculation covers approximately 60 percent of the GDP and includes six major sectors: agriculture, construction, trade, industry, transport, and communications. This indicator is crucial for assessing the dynamics of economic activity in the country from month to month.Experts also note that in January-September 2024, compared to the same period in 2023, most regions showed positive growth rates in the STI. The highest growth rate was observed in the Zhetiysu region (114.4 percent).
