ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 3. Kazakhstan’s Air Astana is setting a new standard in sustainability by becoming the first airline in Central Asia and the CIS to join the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) CO2 Connect initiative, Trend reports.

The CO2 Connect project aims to measure emissions by collecting precise route-specific data based on airlines’ operational information. Air Astana has joined 50 other airlines already participating in IATA CO2 Connect and will provide actual data to enhance the accuracy of CO2 emissions calculations, thereby supporting global efforts to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050.

"The future of aviation depends on collective efforts to address climate challenges. We are pleased to participate in CO2 Connect and contribute to the industry's sustainable development alongside global airlines," said Peter Foster, President and CEO of Air Astana.

Air Astana’s participation in IATA CO2 Connect highlights the airline’s commitment to promoting eco-initiatives both regionally and globally. The company continues to implement innovative practices, enhance transparency, and contribute to the collective responsibility for a sustainable future in aviation.

Air Astana is an airline in Kazakhstan. Based in Almaty, the airline was established as a joint venture between the National Welfare Fund “Samruk-Kazyna” (51 percent) and the British company BAE Systems PLC (49 percent) and began operating commercial flights on May 15, 2002.
