ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 15. The Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Akkenzhenov, conducted a working meeting with Michael Wirth, the Chairman of the Board of Directors and Chief Executive Officer of Chevron Corporation, during which they thoroughly discussed the current status and future prospects of their strategic partnership and cooperation between Kazakhstan and one of the world’s leading energy companies, Trend reports.
In the course of the meeting, the minister emphasized the importance of long-term cooperation with Chevron and its significant contribution to the development of Kazakhstan’s oil and gas sector and economy. The government of Kazakhstan is creating stable conditions for investors.
According to the minister, a key achievement was the successful completion of the Future Expansion Project (FEP) at the Tengiz field, which opens up new opportunities for the country’s energy potential development.
“Discussions included steps to achieve project performance indicators and optimize production processes, as well as the principles of further cooperation at Tengiz, taking into account mutually beneficial interests,” the press service of the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan said.
The Kazakh side emphasized the need for high industrial safety standards, timely maintenance, and equipment modernization. Measures to increase the share of Kazakh content in projects and promote national personnel were also discussed.
“Special attention was given to the prospects of oil and gas chemistry. The provision of raw materials for the polypropylene complex and the construction of the gas separation complex, which will become the basis for polyethylene production, were discussed,” the ministry added.
The Kazakh side also highlighted the importance of creating an industrial cluster to develop local businesses.
“We value our partnership with Chevron, which enables us to implement key projects such as the FEP at Tengiz. Further cooperation must align with Kazakhstan’s strategic interests, including the development of Tengiz, safety standards, support for national personnel, and oil and gas chemistry. We are ready for an open dialogue to achieve our common goals,” said Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Akkenzhenov.
He also noted the strategic importance of constructing a new gas processing plant to saturate the domestic market with gas. The government expects active participation from consortium shareholders, including Chevron, in accelerating the implementation of this project.
The stakeholders engaged in a discourse on the strategic diversification of hydrocarbon transportation corridors and the optimization of gas supply stability for Kazakhstan's internal market dynamics.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Board of Directors and CEO of Chevron Corporation, Michael Wirth, held meetings with the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and the Chairman of the Board of JSC NC KazMunayGas, Askhat Khassenov.
