BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 25. According to the latest monthly report by the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), European natural gas production fell by 14% year-on-year in February 2025, reaching a total of 14.8 bcm, Trend reports.
This marks the fourth consecutive monthly decline compared to the same period in the previous year, the report noted.
The drop in production was mainly attributed to lower output in Norway, the United Kingdom, and the European Union - particularly the Netherlands. However, the decline was partially offset by increased gas production in Türkiye, driven by the ramp-up of the Sakarya gas field.
EU gas output stood at 2.1 bcm in February, with the Netherlands and Romania as the leading producers. In total, Europe produced 31.1 bcm of gas during the first two months of 2025, representing a 10.2% decrease compared with the same period in 2024. This also marked the lowest output level in the last five years.
Norway remained the largest contributor to European gas production, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the continent’s total output. Meanwhile, the UK and the Netherlands continued to see a sustained decline in production, with expectations for further reductions throughout 2025.
