ASTANA, Kazakhstan, May 9. Kazakhstan's Aktau port in the Mangystau Region will undergo dredging to deepen the seabed by 1.5 to 2 meters for safer navigation, Trend reports via the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan.
The mentioned operations are part of comprehensive measures
being taken as part of the development of the Trans-Caspian
International Transport Route (TITR) and will help meet the growing
demands for cargo transportation along this corridor.
According to the information, specialists will employ specialized
dredging equipment from the major European company Jan de Nul.
These dredging works will create the necessary conditions for the
further expansion of terminal capacity.
Currently, the throughput capacity of the Aktau port is about 15 million tons of cargo, including 140,000 TEUs.
"The mobilization of specialized equipment is expected to be completed in May, and the dredging operations themselves are planned to be finalized in the fourth quarter of this year," the statement said.
The volume of container traffic via the TITR in Q1 2025 increased 3.5 times and amounted to 25,000 TEUs, compared to 7,200 TEUs in the same period in 2024.
