BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 20. Europe’s gas injection season advanced steadily in June 2025, with underground storage (UGS) sites across the EU reaching an average daily volume of 55.8 billion cubic metres (bcm), up from 45.5 bcm a month earlier, according to the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF), Trend reports.
By the end of June, total EU gas stocks stood at 60.9 bcm, an increase of 10.9 bcm over the month, exceeding the five-year average net injection for June of 9.1 bcm. Average storage site utilisation rose to 54%. Despite the progress, June storage levels remained 20 bcm below the same period last year and 9.8 bcm under the five-year average.
Italy led with storage levels at 71%, while Germany surpassed the 50% mark. Meanwhile, average LNG storage in the EU held steady at 3.1 bcm (57% of capacity), up 15% year-on-year.
In parallel, EU member states endorsed a European Commission proposal to extend the Gas Storage Regulation through 2027, with the collective goal of filling 90% of storage by early winter, offering flexibility to meet the target between October and December.
