Azerbaijan, Baku, March 8 / Trend, E. Ismayilov /

The construction of a new modular power plant in the village of Boyuk Shor will be completed in 2014, head of Azerenergy (production and distribution of electricity in Azerbaijan) Elchin Mammadov told Trend.

According to him, the preparatory work for construction of the station has been completed and it will be put into operation the next year.

"Construction of modular power plants does not require a lot of time," Mammadov said.
According to him, the module type stations are more appropriate to use during peak and semi-peak hours for meeting the consumer demand.

The construction of a 384-megawatt power plant will be conducted by the Finnish company Wärtsilä. The station will operate on gas and generated electricity will be supplied to Baku's energy grid. The station will consist of 21 blocks.

Wärtsilä has been operating in Azerbaijan since the mid-1990s and has built seven power plants with a total capacity of 860 megawatts.

The power generation capacity of power plants owned by Azerenergy is more than six thousand megawatts.

There are more than 200 substations with a capacity of 500, 330, 220 and 110 kV, as well as six and 13 hydroelectric power plants on the balance of JSC.
