BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 7. There are plans to tow the Satti drilling rig from Azerbaijan to Kazakhstan, a source in the oil and gas market of Azerbaijan told Trend.
The source revealed that there are currently no upcoming projects in Azerbaijan for the Satti drilling rig, and it is anticipated that the rig will be towed to Kazakhstan in the coming months.
Kazakhstan's national oil and gas company, KazMunayGas, had previously transferred the jack-up floating drilling rig Satti to Azerbaijan on June 19, 2019. Satti is a remarkable platform, being the first entirely constructed in Kazakhstan. It was built over a span of three years using American technology at two shipyards. The rig is specifically designed for drilling operations in the Caspian Sea at depths of up to 80 meters.
The decision to transfer the rig was made in February 2019. While in Azerbaijan, the Satti drilling rig was used to drill three exploration wells as part of the Shallow Water Development Project of the Absheron Peninsula (SWAP). Unfortunately, no hydrocarbon reserves were discovered during these operations. Consequently, on May 25, 2022, the third exploration well, QBDX01, was plugged. This marked the conclusion of the planned work as part of the SWAP exploration drilling program, and the Satti jack-up drilling rig was subsequently retired from the program.
