BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 30. The STAR oil refinery, operated by the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Türkiye, recorded a 13.6 percent increase in aviation fuel production in May 2024 compared to the same month in 2023, Trend reports via Türkiye's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK).

The refinery produced 125,650 tons of aviation fuel in May 2024, up from 110,576 tons in May 2023.

The increase in aviation fuel production follows a period during which the STAR refinery had redirected its production capacity to diesel fuel due to decreased demand for aviation fuel amid COVID-19 restrictions. With the lifting of these restrictions, the refinery resumed aviation fuel production to meet the rising demand.

The STAR refinery, which commenced operations in October 2018, represents an investment of $6.3 billion, with approximately $3.3 billion financed through loans. The refinery has an annual processing capacity of 10 million tons and can process 214,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
