Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Babayeva / The Azerbaijan Ministry of Information Technology and Communications has submitted proposals and recommendations to use 3G frequencies to its three GSM operators.
"Frequencies have already been offered to all three operators," the Ministry said.
There are four mobile operators functioning in Azerbaijan, including three operating on GSM standards - Azercell Telecom, Bakcell and Azerfon and one on CDMA standard - Catel. The number of mobile communications subscribers total 4mln people.
Previously three GSM-operators wanted to render 3G service in the country.
3G standard was projected and designed by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and its name is IMT-2000 (International Mobile Telecommunications 2000). 3G is a set of services which unite high-speed mobile network with Internet and radio. It enables video-telephone communication, watching films and TV programs on mobile phone, etc.
