BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 26. Russian ports on the Caspian Sea have increased cargo turnover, Trend reports.
According to Russian statistics, the total cargo turnover of the
Caspian ports of Astrakhan, Olya, and Makhachkala in the first
quarter of 2024 was 2.2 million tons, which is 40.4 percent higher
than from January to March 2023.
Out of the total volume, 1.6 million tons were dry freight (a
1.8-fold increase) and 0.6 million tons were liquid cargo (a 4.9
percent drop).
The Russian Federation's Caspian ports carried 7.8 million tons of
cargo in 2023, a 29.7 percent increase, with 5 million tons of dry
goods (1.6 times growth) and the remainder liquid freight (2.3
percent drop).
Note that these ports are part of the "North-South" international
transport corridor, which has been in development since 2000 and
includes 14 nations.
