BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 15. The total volume of cargo handled at the Baku International Sea Trade Port (BISTP), an important part of the Middle Corridor route, reached 7.6 million tons in 2024, up 3.2 percent from 2023, Trend reports via BISTP statement.
Last year, 76,775 TEU equivalent containers were handled at the port, which is an indicator of a 73 percent increase compared to the previous year.
Meanwhile, the number of wheeled vehicles accepted and dispatched at the port was 58,169 units, increasing by 7.2 percent year on year.
The volume of dry cargo handled at the port last year exceeded 1.04 million tons, and the number of wagons was 37,515 units.
More than 5.3 million tons of the total cargo handling, that is, 70 percent, belongs to transit cargo.
"Considering the growing interest in the international transport corridors passing through our country and the Port of Baku, which is the most modern logistics center and port in the region, as well as the rapidly developing infrastructure and logistics operational capabilities, it can be said that the positive statistical trend will continue in the current year as well," added the statement.
To note, the volume of total cargo handled in the BISTP grew by 16.3 percent compared to 2022, reaching 7.3 million tons.
